ISE is the show where the AV industry comes together to meet, talk and learn. More than 80,000 attendees made their way to Amsterdam for the 2018 edition last month, with a significant contingent from countries outside Europe – bearing out the show’s billing as ‘the European destination for the global AV industry’.
This year’s ISE saw a bigger than ever programme of conferences, seminars and events, bringing new ideas and visions to this expanded attendee base, more than 30% of whom were attending the show for the first time. Alongside established thought leadership events such as the Opening Address, the Smart Building Conference and the Digital Signage Summit at ISE were some thought-provoking new events. These included the XR Summit, exploring the latest developments in virtual, augmented and mixed reality; and the TIDE Conference, hosted by ISE co-owner AVIXA, which looked at some of the business contexts within which the AV industry operates.
There was plenty of food for thought on the showfloor itself. Organised into seven broad technology areas, just under 1,300 exhibitors showed, in the words of AVIXA’s Dan Goldstein, “solutions to problems people don’t even know they have”. And the three Show Floor Theatres hosted more than 150 informative presentations and panel sessions on hot industry topics.

“>ISE Daily Executive Issue is a distillation of the most important conversations that took place across the ISE show, the conference sessions and the Show Floor Theatres. You can read about advances in mixed reality and projection mapping, immersive sound and the Internet of Things, as well as exploring the ways that architects and integrators are coming together to design smart buildings, smarter cities and safer sports venues.
To quote Carlo Ratti, who gave the Opening Address as well as appearing on the podium at the Smart Building Conference, “What the future will be is for us to decide.” By contributing to and catalysing the wider industry conversation. ISE is playing an important role in helping us all to make those decisions.
