Apple ProRes support announced

As well as announcing a new software release for its Mark 2 range of media servers, Picturall has also announced support for Apple’s ProRes codec for all Picturall products.

ProRes offers six formats that range from extreme compression to minimal compression rates and is said to be one of the most popular codecs in the field of professional video and post-production. ProRes is a 10-bit codec, and Picturall notes that its Variable Bitrate (VBR) feature allows

ProRes to be economical with video storage, without impairing visual quality.

Also new for ISE 2017 is a range of input cards that provide DP 1.2 and HDMI 2.0 connectivity for full end-to-end 4K compatibility across the full range of Picturall products. Configurations of up to 4-in and 16-out are available.

The company has also announced support for an uncompressed 8K playback option across the full range of media servers available in 2, 4 and 8TB formats. This allows the use of uncompressed DPX and TGA image sequences directly, with no further compression required. The system can play back images with up to 10-bit colours of 4:4:4 chroma subsampling.
