It’s Tannoy’s 90th anniversary year, and the company’s new AMS Series of surface mount architectural loudspeakers are being showcased.
Comprising a range of seven models ranging in three form factors from 5in to 8in, the AMS series incorporates the company’s Dual Concentric point source technology.
The range is decked out in styled moulded enclosures, with custom colour being available on special order. Tannoy claims the AMS models have undergone the most punishing environmental testing of any product in Tannoy’s history, achieving an IP65 rating for outdoor use and challenging environments. UUMW ICT driver versions are also available for mission critical voice alarm system applications.
The speakers sport weather-resistant zinc-plated nickel grilles and higher temperature polymer mouldings. Inside is Tannoy’s Omnimagnet technology and a patent-pending Torus Ogive Waveguide device, which together provide controlled directivity along with high frequency response. The company claims there is enhanced time alignment and coherence between the low frequency and high frequency drivers.
The AMS range utilises a 16ohm driver, for use in high performance low-impedance systems, with optimised performance when used in conjunction with Lab.gruppen LUCIA amplifiers.
According to Tannoy, the AMS series was engineered to produce a sonic characteristic that is perfectly matched with the company’s CMS 3.0 ceiling loudspeaker, which can also be seen at ISE.
Also on show is Tannoy’s QFlex digitally steerable, multi-channel, array speaker system. New features introduced on QFlex deliver more resolute safety and monitoring facilities, making it compliant in any life safety or mass notification environment. In addition QFlex has been weatherised for outdoor or harsh environments without compromising on the product’s aesthetic, making it suited for large-scale transport hub applications such as within airport terminals and major train stations, says Tannoy. Among the key improvements on this front are the addition of Pilot Tone Detection capability, Sentinel SM1 System Monitor and certification to IP53 standards.
