4K infrastructure continues growth

As the necessary 4K/UltraHD infrastructure starts to grow, a company doing its bit is Gefen, which is demonstrating a range of products at ISE 2015 designed to allow UHD content to be extended and integrated.
The UltraHD Extender over One Fiber delivers resolutions up to 4K (3840 x 2160 @30Hz) with RS-232 and bi-directional IR using one SC-terminated fibre optic cable.

This long-range solution is said to be effective up to 2,000m in distance. RS-232 offers an easy method of system automation and control, notes Gefen, while bi-directional IR facilitates control from both local and extended locations. Surface-mountable enclosures provide maximum installation flexibility.

Gefen’s UltraHD ELR-POL Extender is its newest HDBaseT extender, providing point-to-point transmission of 4K UltraHD content with RS-232 and bi-directional IR. PoL (Power over Line) provides power to the receiver using the same Cat5 cable, and alleviates the need for a power source at the receiver side. Distances up to 150m at 1080p full HD and up to 100m at 4K UltraHD can be achieved.

Content is delivered with near zero latency, the company says, using industry-standard Cat5 cabling combined with Gefen’s ELR (Extra Long Range) implementation of HDBaseT technology.

Gefen is also unveiling its UltraHD 8×8 Matrix which routes eight sources in any combination to eight displays with seamless switching between all sources and displays. Gefen FST (Fast Switching Technology) is included to speed switching time and improve the HDCP authentication process. Lossless audio formats such as Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio are delivered along with resolutions up to 4K supporting 3DTV pass-through.

Selectable buttons on the matrix enclosure enable users to refine system performance, and include options for advanced EDID management, audio, FST modes and routing options.
