LG withdraws from ISE 2020

Amid concerns about the coronavirus outbreak, LG Electronics has announced it will not be exhibiting at ISE 2020

The announcement follows the World Health Organization’s declaration last week that the coronavirus outbreak constituted a Public Health Emergency of International Concern (PHEIC).

LG’s statement reasoned the decision was taken to reduce the risk of exposing employees and customers to international travel, which has already become much more restrictive as the virus continues to spread across more borders.

The statement went on to say: With the WHO recommending that individuals “promote social distancing,” LG management believed that the most responsible decision was to avoid participating in large public events until the situation stabilised.

ISE management has said that they will continue to monitor the situation through the advice of the public health authorities.

Mike Blackman, managing director of Integrated Systems Events, commented: “Although all Chinese airports are already exercising exit controls with health tests we ask all of you, whichever country you will be attending from, to work with us and exercise some common healthy practices.

“If you do not feel well or believe you may have any relevant symptoms (or in fact any health threatening symptoms, whatever they may be) that you feel might put your fellow exhibitors and attendees at risk please seek medical advice and refrain from travelling.”

ISE notes the following precautions should be taken to minimise risk:

  • Frequently clean hands by using alcohol-based hand rub or soap and water;
  • When coughing and sneezing cover mouth and nose with flexed elbow or tissue – throw tissue away immediately and wash hands;
  • Avoid close contact with anyone who has fever and cough;
  • Do keep up to date with the World Health Organization recommendations on keeping healthy.
