Suitable for home cinema/hi-fi and CI applications, the Hurricane Evo CI satellite speaker features upgraded drivers, tweeters and body. Further enhancing the existing patented Heatstream technology, the reworked Hurricane is available with three mounting options – on-wall, tabletop, stand-mount – and three body colours: black, white and silver with matching grilles (orange and green are also available).

The result of two years’ R&D in consultation with Waterfall Audio’s customer base, the EVO – priced at £355 (single unit) – is said to achieve “exceptional acoustic performance” and is suitable for deployment without a subwoofer.

Features of the two-way Hurricane Evo speaker include: peak power of 400W; impedance (mean/min) of 8.4 ohms; weight of 4.5lbs/2kg; the Atohm LD100BND04 Absolute Series driver for higher bass response; the Atohm SD20 tweeter, offering an extended frequency response to 28kHz; and Heatstream technology to dissipate excess heat from the voice coil.

Hurricane Evo is also available in a 2.1 configuration for home audio and home cinema use. This configuration is supplied with Waterfall’s HF2 (High Force 2) compact, active subwoofer, which possesses 150W of dynamic, on-board amplification, delivered through a 9in bass driver.

Waterfall Audio owner/designer Cedric Aubriot told IE Residential: “When Hurricane was introduced in 2002 it responded to the need for an elegant, discreet and performing satellite to be paired with the new plasma screens. It was a success. Several years later we decided to further enhance its performance and add integration flexibility, so we went back to the drawing board and, together with our partner Atohm, we redesigned the drivers and body of the Hurricane. It now comes with a choice of three aluminium body colours with five different grille finishes, [as well as] a brand new driver and tweeter. With its added bass response, it can now be used in a multi-room configuration without a subwoofer.

“For integration purposes we provide installers with various angled brackets for a wider choice of positioning. As an option it also has newly-designed tall metal and shelf stands. It still uses our famous patented Heatstream technology to make it one of the best performers of this size on the market.”
