A private members’ late night club opening next month features a sound/lighting design by Dave Parry and audio equipment from Allen & Heath and Void Acoustics.

Billed as bringing an element of Las Vegas luxury to Merseyside, the strikingly-designed PlayGround occupies a 3,500-plus square foot space at the Hilton Liverpool Hotel on Thomas Steers Way. It is the brainchild of The Ability Group’s George Panayiotou, who remarked: “I’ve been coming to Liverpool for quite some time and thought that this vibrant and cultural city needed a new late night venue that was worthy of it.”

Befitting its high-end ethos, PlayGround features an AV design/ implementation by one of the leading names in the club sector, Dave Parry (Most Technical), whose credits include fabric and matter. The visual spec includes a huge 1.7m (H) x 3m (W) LCD screen – constructed from Samsung UT series screens and constituting one of the largest permanently installed screens of its type in the UK – running along the whole of the back wall, with numerous LED lights guiding visitors’ attention to a stage area that will host a variety of live performances. The lighting spec also includes a series of RGB LED pendant lights which hang above the 18ft long main bar and pulse in time with the music.

The video server is by immersive and is connected to a 3 x 3 video wall which is extended around the room using pixel nodes. In addition to allowing high-resolution images to be replayed across the room, the server links in to the LED colour changers around the venue to facilitate a fully integrated lightshow.

PlayGround has also been equipped with powerful Robe intelligent scanners, placed in the roof and controlled from a separate dedicated controller situated in the DJ box.

In terms of the audio spec, the DJ booth is based around the latest Allen & Heath 4D mixer and a pair of Pioneer CDJ 2000 CD players. The loudspeaker system, meanwhile, is from Void Acoustics, with the main dancefloor covered by six Void Airtens tops and a quartet of subs.

Featuring a highly distinctive interior by Tim Mutton from Blacksheep and staff uniforms designed by celebrated Liverpool-based fashion designer Kirsty Doyle, PlayGround is scheduled to open on 6 December at the Hilton Liverpool Hotel, 3 Thomas Steers Way, Liverpool L1 8LW.
