Versatile venue specifies L-Acoustics dV-DOSC

Comedy, rock concerts, sporting events and more will be heard through an L-Acoustics dV-DOSC modular WST line source FOH system supplied to the Spa Bridlington’s Royal Hall venue.

The 3,800-capacity space at the North Humberside, UK venue received the new system from Adlib Audio, which was appointed to work on the project by electrical contractor K Binks Heating. The Art Deco Royal Hall ballroom and Edwardian spa theatre have recently been restored, and any installation work had to complement the interior decor.

Existing stocks of L-Acoustics equipment prompted technical manager and Adlib installations director Roger Kirby to make the French brand their first choice.

Possible system configurations were modelled in L-Acoustics’ 3D prediction software, SOUNDVISION, and the final system is split into four discreet zones. The main system consists of a flown left and right of eight dV-DOSC cabinets per side underneath one dV sub, flown from the front of the existing stage PA truss. Adlib utilised six of the venue’s existing L-Acoustics 8XT compact coaxials, which are augmented with six L-Acoustics 108P active coaxials for stage lip fill. A further six existing 8XTs have been re-used as balcony fills, while six 108P speakers provide fill for the seated area at the very front of the stage. Four SB28 subs, supplied with custom anti-vibration turret feet to minimise vibration and unwanted resonance to the venue’s sprung dance floor, have been installed at stage level.

Once Adlib’s accredited L-Acoustics engineers had commissioned the system, tests showed a major improvement in definition and speech intelligibility across all areas of the Royal Hall. The Spa’s technical staff have now received training on the new equipment and are backed with full technical support for Adlib Solutions.

“We have received plaudits from customers and clients about the quality of sound in what is a difficult space to work with,” said Jones. “Adlib’s support throughout the project and their aftercare has been second to none.”
