Technology trends – Home Technology Event preview

Award-winning London firm Gregory Phillips Architects will be the lead speaker in the free education programme at the annual show for the smart home design and installation sector, the CEDIA Home Technology Event (ExCeL London, exhibition: 28-30 June; training 27-30 June).

As part of the free seminars sessions taking place on the morning of Wednesday 29 June, Gregory Phillips (pictured) will join a conversation with David Graham, from CEDIA member company Grahams Hi-Fi, looking at “The Technology Challenge In Modern Homes”.

The session will pose the question: How best can a comfortable, stylish home be created that adeptly meets the needs of 21st century living?

From inspiring, fully integrated new-build contemporary homes to extensive refurbishments, remodeled houses and imaginative extensions, Gregory Phillips Architects is renowned for its innovative approach which blends together traditional materials and state-of-the-art technologies (see The Pope’s House, pictured). In discussion with David Graham, Gregory Phillips will explore how modern homes offer a unique opportunity to incorporate everything homeowners could ever need or want, be that state-of-the-art audio-visual systems, specialist lighting, stunning home cinemas and more.

This presentation is followed by a contrasting session from David Myres, associate director at ADAM Architecture covering, “The Technology Challenge In Traditional Homes”. Organised by Upper Street Events on behalf of the trade association CEDIA (the Custom Electronic Design & Installation Association), the Home Technology Event is the only annual trade show and education event in the UK dedicated to the design, installation, integration and concealment of home electronic systems. On show will be technologies used in whole-home audio and TV distribution systems, home cinema, lighting, HVAC and security control, data networks and other electronic sub-systems. 

Following the talks, architects will have the opportunity to tour the show floor and familiarise themselves with the key systems and products from more than 170 brands in the industry. They will also benefit from seeing dedicated Room Set spaces where the latest products are showcased in real-world settings with the emphasis on how the latest technology can be hidden or displayed in an aesthetically pleasing way.
