Special solution from GDS for Parisian theatre

GDS was recently commissioned to deliver a bespoke stage manager’s console for the 2,500-seat Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris.

With a heritage that stretches back to the 1860s, the venue’s wooden floors and large glass dome mean that it is renowned for its acoustic qualities.

The brief supplied to GDS prioritised a console that would enable the theatre to integrate its control surfaces and provide more functionality and control than it would get from a traditional stage manager’s desk.

The bespoke solution, the SM Console, is modular in design and allows the client to select the necessary capability. Inside the Type ‘B’ case with uni-polar stand GDS has incorporated functionality for cue lights, intercom, clock, timer and paging, along with PC integration, local lighting control, video switching, VGA matrixing, DVD playback, audio mixing, large format external monitors, two panel integrated colour monitors, bar bells and a phone ringer.

The end-result, says GDS, is a custom-built stage manager’s console that provides the ‘flexibility and the capacity to run the entire technical production from one place’.
