Russound introduces AirPlay support for DMS-3.1 streamer

Distributor The Multi-Room Company has announced the availability of an update for Russound’s DMS-3.1 Digital Media Streamer that enables support of Apple’s AirPlay.

Distributor The Multi-Room Company has announced the availability of an update for Russound’s DMS-3.1 Digital Media Streamer that enables support of Apple’s AirPlay.

With AirPlay, any audio content currently playing on a compatible Apple product can be wirelessly pushed to the Digital Media Streamer for playback through the multi-room audio system.

For example, party guests can easily play their favourite music through the host’s music system by connecting to the wireless network, pressing the AirPlay icon on their device, and selecting the DMS-3.1 as the destination.

AirPlay is enabled in all DMS-3.1 Digital Media Streamers shipping after 1 November 2011. Russound dealers and installers can update their customers’ existing DMS 3.1 Digital Media Streamers at no charge by installing the new firmware. AirPlay works with iPhone 4S, iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPod touch (2nd, 3rd and 4th generation), iPad 2 and iPad with iOS 4.2 or later, or Mac and PC with iTunes 10.1 or later.

“The Digital Media Streamer is a perfect addition to the C- Series Multi-room audio system,” commented Alan Briggs of The Multi-Room Company. “With AirPlay, it’s even more compelling. Systems integrators can easily add AirPlay capabilities to any C-Series installation and provide their customers [with] outstanding value.”

Speaking to IE-Residential, Briggs remarked that, despite the challenging conditions, the Russound brand has maintained its position in the market by providing robust, simple and intuitive solutions for multi-room audio and video.

“We have remained the system of choice for many installers throughout 2011,” said Alan Briggs. “The standalone streaming multi-room music offerings are precisely just that and little else, thus reducing the scope for margin. Russound, however, has always provided an installable multi-source infrastructure that distributes and controls much more than hard disk-based music. Also, with some exciting new developments such as the addition of Apple AirPlay to our products and control via iPad and iPhone app, we are ready to take on 2012.”
