ROE Visual screens formed backdrop for Eurovision Song Contest 2025

It can now be revealed the event deployed a Black Marble BM4 LED floor, Vanish V8T transparent LED panels and Graphite 2.6 indoor LED displays for three shows in Basel, Switzerland, in May

It can now be revealed that ROE Visual LED screens were deployed for the Eurovision Song Contest 2025, which took place at St. Jakobshalle in Basel, Switzerland. Organised by the Swiss Broadcasting Corporation and the European Broadcasting Union, the event reached over 200m global viewers across three shows.

As part of a long-standing partnership, event supplier Creative Technology selected a Black Marble BM4 LED floor, Vanish V8T transparent LED panels and Graphite 2.6 indoor LED displays. These technologies formed the visual backbone of the shows, culminating in the final on May 17.

Creative Technology deployed Graphite 2.6 panels for the stage’s large front portal, one of the key scenic elements. The high-resolution Black Marble BM4 LED floor provided dramatic effects across the complete stage surface.

And the transparent Vanish V8T screens created layered content, revealing lighting and effects from behind and adding creative possibilities for the lighting and video teams.

Production designer Florian Wieder drew inspiration from Switzerland’s famous mountainous landscapes. He paired sculptural scenic elements with advanced LED integration. The complete stage setup consisted of a massive portal frame, a stage, lighting bridges, and a stage backdrop. The upstage featured mountains, a giant screen, and a light grid.

ROE Visual’s Vanish V8T panels formed the multi-layered stage background, introducing dynamic transparency and layering effects. This setup enabled the LED screen to blend with the lighting and projections. All ROE Visual LED systems ran on Megapixel’s HELIOS processing.

The entire production infrastructure was built on an IP-based video network (ST 2110). The process relied on real-time monitoring tools developed by Creative Technology.

Tim Routledge, lighting designer, said:  “Using the semi-transparent, 8.9mm pixel pitch screen allowed us to visually ‘hide’ the screen, letting all the light from behind shine through and turning the surface into a three-dimensional element. We did a lot of things where we are driving content through the light with pixel maps with an entire wave of light using video content – it opened up a whole new range of creative possibilities within the lighting design.”

Roelof Bouwman, managing director at ROE Visual Europe, added: “We’re incredibly honoured to have our products featured on one of the world’s biggest stages. Eurovision is known for its technical excellence and creative ambition, and we’re proud our LED solutions supported such a bold vision.”
