PL+S 2017: JBL, Martin and Soundcraft launches from Harman

Harman Professional Solutions has expanded its JBL, Martin and Soundcraft product portfolios at Prolight + Sound this week, with the addition of a new line array loudspeaker, an exterior image projector and two compact stageboxes.

Firstly, Harman has launched the VTX A12 line array loudspeaker, a new dual 12in model for high-end fixed installations and mid-to-large touring productions. It features new transducer and high-frequency waveguide designs, innovations in the rigging and suspension hardware, and refinements to the physical aspects of the cabinet.

“When we set out to design the VTX A12, JBL’s next generation midsize line array, we engaged some of the leading engineers in live sound and asked questions like ‘What frustrates you most?’ and ‘What would make a line array better?’” said Phillip Scobee, tour audio solutions manager, Harman Professional Solutions. “After engineering some groundbreaking advances with the A12’s drivers we knew having the best sound wasn’t enough. We took the feedback we received and applied a systems-based approach that covered all the details, from how quickly the boxes could be rigged, to how efficiently you could load the truck after a performance.”

JBL VTX A12 will be available in April 2017.

Also unveiled at the show, Martin Exterior Projection 1000, is claimed to be the most powerful permanent exterior image projector, and bridge the gap between traditional wash lighting, media facade installations and video projection.

The Exterior Projection 1000 is a low maintenance IP66-rated LED projection fixture that offers sharper image quality, dynamic features and better reach over huge distances. It offers creative control options and a longer LED lifetime as well as significantly lower power consumption and running costs than traditional video projectors. This makes the External Projection 1000 an extremely cost-efficient alternative to conventional discharge fixtures.

Standard features include full CMY colour mixing, an additional colour wheel, gobos, variable frost, a continuous animation wheel with variable angle for both horizontal and vertical animations, and an 8° – 40° beam angle with full zoom range. Additionally it has a high-precision optical design with up to 16,800-lumen output and the capability to run multiple layers of effects. This feature set makes it suited for stadiums, arenas, hotels, theme parks, convention centres and other structures and facades where high performance and low maintenance are required.

“Martin Exterior Projection 1000 offers extremely low running costs and easily outperforms any other permanent outdoor installation fixture in terms of high-precision performance and creative versatility, as well as cost-efficiency,” said Robert Svensson, product manager – large venue, Harman Professional Solutions.

The Martin Exterior Projection 1000 is expected to be available mid-May 2017.

Another key product launch from Harman was the Soundcraft Mini Stagebox 32i and Mini Stagebox 16i. The compact stageboxes provide additional I/O channels for Soundcraft Si consoles and the free firmware update expands the Soundcraft Si Impact mixing console to 80 inputs.

The new rack-mount stageboxes are equipped with high-quality components, including Studer-designed preamps, to deliver exceptional sound quality, convenience and robust ease-of-use.

“The new Mini Stagebox 32i and Mini Stagebox 16i are perfect for live sound engineers, houses of worship, bands, club owners and corporate customers that want affordable remote-controlled I/O for their Soundcraft Si series console,” said Scott Wood, solutions manager, mixing at Harman Professional Solutions. “Mini Stagebox 32i and Mini Stagebox 16i deliver the input power, versatility and sound quality of large-scale traditional mixing solutions – all at an incredible value. Combined with the new Soundcraft Si Impact firmware update, the new stageboxes make the Si line more compelling and more flexible than ever.”

Dedicated XLR mic pre inputs allow 32 or 16 simultaneous channels of external analogue input. Mini Stagebox 32i offers 12 analogue outputs, while Mini Stagebox 16i offers eight analogue outputs for easy connection to house and stage monitors and broadcast or streaming feeds.
