High production values were at the core of the technical installation, for which a C-Burn computer music system was specified to deliver background sound through a BSS 9088 DSP unit for control, complete with ‘jellyfish’ remote. This was chosen because it is “reliable, good quality technology and was perfect for the application,” said managing director Paul Adams.
The sound design incorporates six areas, defined via a Cloud zoner, and uses a mix of Electrovoice Evid 6.2 and Australian Monitor Install 50 speakers throughout the venue. La Parrilla has an open plan design with a central bar, and seating areas on all four sides, complete with additional al fresco spaces to take advantage of good weather moments. Adams specified EV and Australian Monitor after many good past experiences in similar installations, and also because of the aesthetics and expedient size of the selected ranges.
For lighting control, PAI developed a custom interface allowing a Pulsar Masterpiece 12 outstation Replay unit to also be integrated via the Soundweb. The eye-catching lighting scheme, designed by Swansea-based interior design practice Thomas Parry, includes large ‘distressed’ bespoke tungsten-source chandeliers all around the venue, and various fluorescents uplighting the bar and wall areas. These are all powered or switched via an ANYtronics DMX Contractor 24 pack.
PAI also supplied flat screen monitors – two 37-inch and a 32-inch – in the front bar area, and a Kramer matrix distribution amplifier, allowing the routing of all sources to all destinations. Sources include terrestrial and satellite TV, two Freeview DTT receivers and a DVD player.
“This was a great project to be involved in. The client wanted all the technical elements to match the general quality, detail and unique ambience of the venue – which is an excellent attitude,” said Adams.
