The HD video multi-room entertainment and control system is said to add "a new level of sophistication to the smart home". Developed to bring multi-room touchscreen audio, HD video and control to a wider audience, the 6 Series is built around the new MCU610 master control unit, which provides entertainment to six zones and six sub-zones, and can be controlled by new Opus touchscreens, devices such as Pronto, the iPhone and the recently unveiled iPad.
In addition, the MCU610 enables seamless integration of third-party smart home technologies such as lighting, HVAC, security and entertainment systems like Apple TV, media servers and more. For the largest residential installs, additional MCUs can be added to allow Opus to serve as many as 36 rooms.
Other elements of the Opus system include the VMX610 High Definition Video Matrix, which offers full HD video output to eight HD TV screens anywhere in the home, and a range of touchscreens (an upgraded 3.5in model and new 5.7in version).
The 6 Series also maintains Opus's single-wire approach, but a new generation Balanced Transmission Cable (BTC2) enables video feeds to be sent directly to Opus touchscreens.
Opus Technologies' director of marketing, Simon Hewitt (pictured in celebratory mood at ISE), told IE Residential: "This year's ISE was a real milestone for Opus as we previewed the new 6 Series. We were really impressed with the turn out and the constant stream of traffic to our stand even exceeded our own ambitious hopes! Moreover, the quality of leads ISE generated was very encouraging and it's great to see how it has quickly become a true destination for residential installers."
