Modulo Pi media servers are powering interactive experiences at Pulse! The Electric Odyssey, a new 1,200sqm attraction exploring energy and the challenges of the energy transition at Futuroscope theme park near Poitiers, in France. The installation includes an immersive room using an Absen LED floor, eight Barco projectors and four Ouster LiDAR sensors.
The attraction uses Modulo Kinetic Version 7 to combine data from four Ouster OSDome hemispherical LiDAR sensors into a single point cloud, tracking the position and movement of up to 40 visitors simultaneously. The media server uses its integrated 3D engine and node-based programming environment to generate interactive visuals in real time.
The immersive room uses one Kinetic Designer workstation connected to two four-output V-Node servers for the wall projections and a six-output V-Node server for the LED floor. The system operates at a 20Hz refresh rate, with visitor movements affecting particle effects, energy spheres and projected graphics.
Elsewhere, Modulo Pi technology drives a 15m-long projection-mapped model of Futuroscope using four BenQ short-throw projectors, while a Modulo Player media server drives a 30-panel LED display in the entrance. A separate Kids Factory installation uses Modulo Kinetic to process scanned children’s drawings and place them onto animated 3D animals in real time.
Yannis Marchet, development and projects manager, FMD, said: “Modulo Kinetic enables us to achieve technical performances and offer experiences that simply wouldn’t have been possible otherwise, or only with an extremely complex and cumbersome setup.”
Modulo Kinetic also handles show control throughout the attraction, replacing a dedicated show-control platform previously used by FMD. A custom interface manages the displays and projectors, daily diagnostics, scheduled shows and automatic door control.
