Medical mannequins brought to life by Clockaudio

Technology from Clockaudio, Biamp, CUE and REACH has been integrated in a solution that allows teachers to monitor and participate in multiple patient simulations at once.

The Technical University of Munich’s medical training centre is a large facility containing multiple simulation, debriefing and control rooms. The simulation rooms contain mannequins that can breathe, have a pulse, can have their blood pressure taken and, via a teacher’s microphone, can even speak to students during simulations. The training sessions also need to be recorded, for students to analyse and discuss their sessions after training.

The university needed a solution to be able to perform these tasks simultaneously and easily across multiple training rooms within the facility.

To accommodate all the different aspects necessary for proper training and to ensure high quality visual and audio capabilities, Clockaudio partnered with REACH, which supplied its CM800 MRS Powolive server. This allows 15 live video signals to process through eight cameras at once, enabling the university to monitor multiple training sessions concurrently.

Clockaudio supplied room microphones and headsets, allowing teachers to engage in hands-on demonstrations and ensuring high-quality audio for playback.

To transfer the audio from one room to another Biamp equipped and installed its audio matrix solution, comprising three AudiaFLEX CM digital audio units and two NPS-1 network call and communication stations. A total of 14 Community DS-5 monitor speakers were installed, to play audio in all facility rooms.

Overall control is via four touchCUE touchscreen media control devices and an ipCUE-alpha Ethernet-compatible controller, all produced by Czech manufacturer CUE.

Jan Otte from prodyTel, the distribution partner for this project, commented: “For this project, good audio quality was most important. We are very happy with Clockaudio’s [C 005E]omnidirectional boundary microphones as they are the perfect solution for monitoring and recording in these simulation rooms.“

The result of this multi-company collaboration is a state-of-the-art training centre that is playing a major role in enabling students to train and learn to become the professionals of tomorrow.
