Mauritius cinema chooses System Solutions

The newly developed Bagatelle Mall on the island of Mauritius will feature a cinema complex - and Systems Solutions will be providing, among other equipment, a number of Christie digital cinema projectors.

System Solutions, part of the Gearhouse South Africa Group of Companies, has been awarded a US$400,000 contract by Reunion-based cinema company Cineco to supply digital cinema equipment, control and content management systems for a brand-new cinema complex at the newly developed Bagatelle Mall in Moka on the Island of Mauritius.

Due to open on the 29th of September 2011, the 40,000 square metre mall will be the island’s first large scale, regional shopping centre. The complex will include six fully digital, state-of-the art cinema theatres with curved screens and 3D capability – the largest of which will feature an 18 metre wide screen.

For System Solutions, this contract signals the start of what the company hopes will be a long-term relationship with Cineco. System Solutions says that the win fulfils two of its long term strategic objectives; on the one hand penetrating the Indian Ocean Island territories, and on the other, moving into the very specialised cinema market.

“The audio component alone comes to around six tonnes of equipment and includes highly specialised cinema loudspeakers, amplifiers, digital signal processors and monitoring systems from QSC,” said System Solutions general manager Roger Feldmann. “There are Dolby CP750 Digital Cinema Sound Processors being installed in four of the six cinema theatres and Dolby CP 650 processors in the remaining two. These are the only all-digital cinema processors capable of playing back both digital and analog Dolby soundtrack formats.”

The Cinema complex will be equipped with a high-end digital cinema content delivery and management system: a Doremi DCP which includes DCI-compliant Doremi DCP 2000 2D/3D content servers as well as a Doremi TMS/LMS library and content management system. This will enable simultaneous broadcast streams to multiple screens from a single cinema server using a 10GB digital cinema network backbone, and allowing for last minute changes or content additions, including 3D playback.

DCI-compliant CP2210 2K 2D/3D Digital Cinema Projectors from Christie Digital are to be installed in all six projection rooms with two additional Christie legacy analogue projectors to facilitate titles still being presented in this format.

Systems Solutions will also provide fully automated cinema dimming, lighting and control systems in all theatres.
