London home cinema wins CEDIA award

Home technology specialist Finite Solutions has won a major international award for an £80,000 high-tech home cinema installation at a property in Chelsea, London.

The prestige project won the top accolade for ‘Best Home Cinema between the value of £40,000 and £100,000’ by the Custom Electronic Design & Installation Association (CEDIA), the trade body for the design and installation of electronic systems for the home.

“We named this project ‘What Lies Beneath’ as it was the solution to install a state-of-the-art cinema in the basement of our clients’ home,” said Finite Solutions director Phil Cotton. “We managed the entire process to renovate the room and installed a big-screen cinematic experience, complete with surround sound and matinee-style Fortress cinema seats. Clever joinery concealed the projector and speaker system and created storage with aesthetically-pleasing suede covering. We installed an intuitive control system including effective lighting across the ceiling and walls and automated blackout blinds for the skylight. Our client was delighted with the result which is used for family cinema nights and sports viewing.”

Finite Solutions owns what it claims is currently the UK’s most technologically advanced show home that allows property developers, architects and designers – and their clients – to road test digital systems and play with high-tech kit prior to specification.

The £1 million show house features not only the very latest gadgets currently on the market, but also incorporates the world’s finest audio, cinema, lighting, security, IT and telecoms systems. The technology allows an iPad or iPhone to operate lighting, electric blinds, gate entry, CCTV, security alarms and heating. The property even has a perimeter security barrier heat detection system.
