LG showcases mesh LED display at Atlético de Madrid’s stadium

Installation at Spanish football team's Riyadh Air Metropolitano home includes a 1,742sqm ribbon board using company's net-like mesh structure, and more than 3,000sqm of additional LED signage

LG Electronics has delivered a large-scale installation of its mesh LED technology at the Riyadh Air Metropolitano Stadium, home of Atlético de Madrid. The 1,742sqm ribbon display wraps around the upper tier of the venue and is designed to provide dynamic visuals, match data and crowd engagement from all angles. The deployment was ready in time for the new season of Spain’s La Liga season, which began on August 17.

At the centre of the new system is LG’s mesh LED display – a modular, net-like structure that the company says allows for flexible installation on curved or high-rise surfaces. The display is designed to offer high brightness, sharp contrast and visibility even in daylight conditions, while its lightweight structure supports energy efficiency through low heat output and reduced power consumption.

In addition to the main ribbon board, LG has installed more than 3,000sqm of additional LED signage across the stadium. These are placed at entrances, concourses, the player tunnel and press centre and designd to support consistent visual communication and build atmosphere.

The company says all signage is integrated into its LG Business Cloud platform, enabling remote management, targeted content scheduling and opportunities for monetisation through advertising.

LG says its sports signage portfolio spans almost 200 countries and includes stadiums such as Wembley and Twickenham in the UK, as well as high-profile venues across the US and mainland Europe. In Spain, the company claims to supply LED signage to approximately 80 percent of professional football stadiums.

Paik Ki-mun, head of the information display business at the LG Media Entertainment Solution Company, said: “Our advanced signage solutions featured throughout the Riyadh Air Metropolitano Stadium exemplify our commitment to elevating the stadium experience for sports fans. By delivering immersive and dynamic visual solutions, we aim to strengthen our leadership in this growing market.”

According to research firm Omdia, the global LED signage market – including sports facilities – is forecast to grow at an average annual rate of 13.4 percent, reaching more than US$11.5bn by 2029.
