L-Acoustics recently provided the extensive audio upgrade for the multi-purpose The Roof Garden, which lies 100ft above London’s bustling streets and has been a feature of city life for over eight decades.
In updating its sound, the nearly acre-wide Art Deco oasis wanted to celebrate London’s modern diversity while honouring its rich history rooted in community and cultural evolution. Tasked with bringing the audio vision to life was L-Acoustics certified provider, Marquee AV. The challenge: to design a system versatile enough to complement the diverse areas of The Roof Gardens while maintaining the venue’s aesthetic integrity.
The result is a technologically ambitious yet discrete installation that covers eight distinct spaces within The Roof Gardens:
- The Biba Bar features four A10 Wide speakers and two KS21 subwoofers, for a powerful, yet controlled soundscape.
- In the intimate Biba Snug, three X8 speakers and an SB15m subwoofer deliver crisp, enveloping audio.
- The expansive Sun Pavilion & Bar area comes alive with nineteen X8 speakers, nine SB10i subwoofers, and two Syva colinear speakers, ensuring uniform coverage across this dynamic space.
- The Spanish Garden, a verdant escape, is subtly enhanced by fourteen 5XT speakers, six SB10i subwoofers, and twelve X4i, blending with the natural ambience.
- Outdoor areas haven’t been overlooked, with twenty X8 speakers gracing the 6th and 7th Floor Terraces, immersing guests in sound under the open sky.
- Throughout the Walled Garden, Esme’s area, and the 7th floor dining space, an additional fifty-six compact 5XT speakers and sixteen SB10i subwoofers blend into the décor.
This extensive system is powered by L-Acoustics LA4X and LA2Xi amplified controllers.
Stacey Tough, director at Marquee AV explained: “L-Acoustics’ versatility allowed us to tailor the sound to each unique space within The Roof Gardens. From intimate conversations to lively celebrations, the system adapts, always delivering uncompromising audio quality while respecting the venue’s stunning visual aesthetic.”
