Krazy Kanguruh, a 1,200-capacity mountain venue in St Anton, Austria, has reopened following a full rebuild with a new L-Acoustics sound system designed to deliver high energy audio while minimising sound spill to neighbouring properties. Austrian specialist Signal Sound & Light, working alongside regional integration partner Musik Tirol, designed the system around two key constraints — a fully retractable glazed roof that ruled out overhead rigging, and close proximity to surrounding businesses and residences.
With no ceiling mounting points available, the design team developed a solution relying entirely on the venue’s lateral surfaces. The main floor features five X12 loudspeakers flown between six KS21i subwoofers arranged in a 14m bass array, with four additional X12 and eight 5XT speakers providing further coverage. Five X8i loudspeakers cover additional areas, while the upstairs restaurant is served by 13 5XT loudspeakers paired with six X8i speakers. The entire system was modelled in L-Acoustics Soundvision prior to installation.
The extended bass array configuration was central to addressing noise emission requirements, L-Acoustics said. By aligning the end-fire axes of the subwoofer array toward neighbouring properties, the design significantly reduced low-frequency energy in critical directions. During post-installation testing, virtually no sound was perceivable at neighbouring properties even with the roof fully open and the system operating at high output levels.
Network audio integration was achieved via AES/EBU to AVB conversion through an LC16D audio converter, enabling seamless connectivity between Dante-based components and a Yamaha DSP matrix processor.
Siegfried Maier, head of sound at Signal Sound & Light, said: “Minimising sound spill while keeping the atmosphere at full energy inside the venue was a key priority. The distributed system configuration was optimised specifically to reduce external impact while delivering consistent coverage and clarity throughout the room.”
Christoph Reiter, owner of Musik Tirol, added: “Krazy Kanguruh required a system that could combine technical precision with real-world reliability. Together with Signal Sound & Light, we delivered a solution that supports the venue’s ambitious vision while remaining practical and dependable in daily operation.”
