L-Acoustics line arrays deployed at Madrid festivals

Directional speaker technology balances high sound pressure levels with noise control across three Brunch Electronik events in urban parks in the Spanish capital city

L-Acoustics certified provider Smart Fussion deployed L2 cardioid line arrays across three Brunch Electronik festivals in Madrid in 2025, managing noise levels in urban park settings while delivering sound to audiences of up to 20,000 people.

The nomadic, open-air festival takes place in city parks, presenting the challenge of delivering high sound pressure levels to festivalgoers while minimising noise in surrounding residential areas. Smart Fussion handled audio for three editions across Madrid’s Juan Carlos I, Lineal del Manzanares and Tierno Galvan parks between May and September 2025.

The L2 and L2D formed the core of the main PA, with KS28 subwoofers extending low-frequency coverage. K3 handled front-fill, while A15 Focus and A15 Wide enclosures with KS21 subwoofers provided DJ monitoring. X15 filled specific coverage gaps in irregularly shaped venue sections.

Processing ran through P1 units at front of house, with audio transmitted via redundant Milan-AVB network over fibre optics. LA7.16 amplified controllers powered the main PA and delays, while LA12X amplified controllers handled fills, subs and monitors.

Pablo Alcazar, technical production manager at Smart Fussion, said: “L2 proved ideal for the festival: a cardioid system, with compact weight and size, and modern aesthetics, that at the same time maintains the renowned L-Acoustics sonic signature. The cardioid pattern gives us high SPL where we need it – inside the festival grounds – while dramatically reducing what spills into the surrounding neighbourhoods.”

Smart Fussion modelled each park in Soundvision to optimise speaker placement and predict coverage patterns before arriving on site. The company’s crew of L-Acoustics certified technicians executed the deployments with support from L-Acoustics and Spanish distributor EarPro.

Each venue presented distinct acoustic challenges, with Juan Carlos I Park’s long, narrow footprint requiring strategic delay tower placement to maintain consistent SPL and coverage.

Alcazar added: “We achieved everything we set out to achieve, and the results at all three festivals exceeded our expectations.”
