L-Acoustics brings festival-scale sound to Andalucia nightclub

Two-room A Series installation at Studio Club in Torremolinos, Spain, delivers contrasting sonic approaches across a 1,500-capacity main room and an 800-capacity gallery space

L-Acoustics A Series has been installed across two rooms at Studio Club in Torremolinos, Spain, where a large main dancefloor and a more intimate gallery space each demand a distinct approach to sound reinforcement.

Studio Club occupies the former Palladium nightclub, a Costa del Sol venue with a strong reputation from the 1990s. Under new ownership, the building has been repositioned as a music and art destination. The main room is designed to deliver the physical scale and impact associated with large outdoor events, while the 800-capacity Gallery Room takes a different approach – a closer listening environment where the DJ booth sits at crowd level and artwork lines the walls.

L-Acoustics Certified Partner Levels AV carried out full system design, installation and calibration across both spaces, completing the main room first before returning to address the Gallery Room as programming for that space developed.

The main room PA is built around three A15 per side, with two further A15 in out-fill on the right. Delay coverage uses two A15 per side, supported by two A10 per side in out-fill. Six KS28 are installed beneath the DJ booth, with two Kara II positioned above as front fills. The room spans two levels; balcony coverage is handled by two X12, with further X12 and X8 units in distributed positions across the upper tier. DJ monitoring comprises two X12 on a rail-mount system with one SB18 per side, while VIP and backstage areas are covered by two X8 per side. Three LA12X and five LA4X handle amplification throughout. The room features ceilings exceeding six metres and significant reflective surfaces, requiring multiple site visits for measurement and calibration.

The Gallery Room required dedicated acoustic treatment before calibration could begin. The main PA pairs two A15 per side – one Focus and one Wide enclosure – with two SB15m per side flown behind the main hangs, and two A10 per side for delay coverage. Four KS21 beneath the DJ booth provide low-frequency extension. DJ monitoring mirrors the main room arrangement: two X12 on a rail-mount system with two SB18 for localised bass reinforcement. Five LA4X power the system.

Adil Jaabak, tuning and commissioning lead at Levels AV, said: “They had worked with high-level sound systems before, so from the beginning they were very clear that L-Acoustics would give them the sonic character and consistency they wanted across both rooms.”

Jaabak added: “In the main room they wanted people to feel the energy you normally associate with an outdoor event. It needed to feel big, with enough headroom and low-frequency power to create that atmosphere while keeping everything controlled.”

Jaabak added: “That room had to feel much more personal. The idea was closer to hi-fi listening, where the audience feels directly connected to the DJ.”

Studio Club programmes major electronic artists including Marco Carola, Richie Hawtin, Sara Landry and Dixon. The venue promotes the L-Acoustics system as central to the experience it offers performers and audiences.

Jaabak added: “The reaction has been immediate. Artists notice the control and consistency straight away, and the audience response has been very strong in both rooms.”
