L-Acoustics audio modernises major French arts centre

Le Pin Galant venue in the City of Bordeaux has replaced 30-year-old system with an L Series loudspeaker installation, designed to serve 1,400-seat club's diverse programme from symphony concerts to corporate conferences

L-Acoustics’ L2 system of loudspeakers has been installed at Le Pin Galant, a prominent performing arts centre in Mérignac, near Bordeaux, in France, replacing an L-Acoustics’ V-DOSC system that had served the venue for more than 30 years.

The 1,400-seat auditorium, which attracts nearly 100,000 visitors a year for a programme spanning music, dance, comedy and theatre, was acquired by European entertainment operator Fimalac Entertainment in 2025. The upgrade was designed to maintain the venue’s audio quality while meeting the demands of modern productions, from symphony concerts to corporate conferences.

The main left and right hangs each comprise one L2 and one L2D enclosure. Eight ground-stacked KS28 subwoofers in cardioid configuration provide bass reinforcement, while a central hang of one A15 Wide and one A15 Focus adds clarity for speech-heavy events. Two Syva and two Syva Low handle in-fill, with eight X6i covering front-fill positions. The system is powered by four LA7.16i, two LA12X and four LA4X amplified controllers, with processing handled by two P1 processors.

Milan-AVB was selected as the primary networking protocol, with four LS10 audio network switches and one LC16D format converter bridging the Milan-AVB network with legacy digital connections and enabling signal distribution to additional rooms throughout the venue. System management runs through L-Acoustics’ LA Network Manager.

L-Acoustics Certified Provider and integrator Audio Pro designed and implemented the system. The team used L-Acoustics’ Soundvision software throughout the design process to model speaker placement, amplifier setup, equalisation and delay settings before any equipment arrived on site.

Philippe Chassereau, sales and purchasing manager at Audio Pro, said: “The complexity of the project demanded meticulous planning, and we relied heavily on Soundvision throughout the design process. It allowed us to carefully model the venue to predict how the system would perform.”

Chassereau added: “The response from the venue’s technical team, artists and audiences has been overwhelmingly positive. The technical team adapted to the new system remarkably quickly, helped by a comprehensive four-day training programme covering all the modules necessary to operate the system effectively.”
