Kaleidescape launches new disc vault system

Yesterday (19 July) saw a significant new product announcement from the US-based movie server manufacturer in the form of the 320 disc-capacity M700 Disc Vault, reports David Davies.

Automatic and unattended import of content, ease of expandability, and more straightforward installation are among the claims made on behalf of the M700, which is available with immediate effect.

Up to 320 discs can be loaded into the M700’s precision carousel, where their contents are quickly copied onto the Kaleidescape system. This process is fully automated and requires no extra work on the part of the user. While Blu-ray discs must remain in the disc vault to enable playback of the digital copy from the server, DVDs and CDs can be ejected or left in the disc vault.

Multiple M700 Disc Vaults can be added to a Kaleidescape system to house thousands of Blu-ray discs, DVDs and CDs.

The new system also enables quicker and more efficient installation. While dealer/installers can load up a customer’s content on-site, they also have the opportunity to construct the rack on their own premises and pre-load it with a Kaleidescape Movie Collection.

An integrated M-Class player and a front panel display that indicates import progress, number of discs stored and number of available slots are among the other features of the M700.

Speaking to IE Residential, Kaleidescape’s senior director, Tom Barnett, remarked that the new launch would deliver a more straightforward route to a domestic Blu-ray solution. “Now you can just purchase a 1U server and a M700 disc vault and that will be your entire Blu-ray movie server as the Disc Vault has a built-in M Class player,” he said, adding that 2011 is proving to be “a good year” for Kaleidescape system sales.

“Delivering instant access to Hollywood’s best movies at the highest quality – anywhere in your home – has always been our passion at Kaleidescape,” said Michael Malcolm, founder, chairman and CEO of Kaleidescape. “We have spent the past ten years designing and building a family of products that solve real usability problems while providing the highest levels of performance and reliability. The M700 Disc Vault is an elegant addition to our product family that makes it easy to import your content, provides a safe place to store your discs, and makes it quick and easy to retrieve any disc when you need it.”
