JBL VLA system for Oregon basketball arena

To meet requirements for a powerful but visually unobtrusive system, AVI-SPL opted for two side arrays of eight VLA901 loudspeakers and four corner arrays, each incorporating six VLA601s and two VLA901s. “We chose the VLA loudspeakers knowing that we would need a highly controllable system,” said AVI-SPL’s Nathan Thomas. “The VLAs offer that controllability, and the horizontal splay angles drove us to ultimately go with that product.”

Building on JBL’s VerTec line array and Precision Directivity ranges, VLA (Variable Line Array) series loudspeakers are designed for permanent installations requiring high-impact sound reinforcement at throw distances beyond the reach of traditional loudspeaker designs. The VLA Series incorporates six large-format horn-loaded modules with three horizontal horn coverage patterns (30˚, 60˚ and 90˚).

Jon Sager, director of market development, installed sound at JBL Professional, told II:

“The Rose Garden is an example of leading systems integration firms such as AVI-SPL finding line array technology to be the ideal solution for professional and collegiate sports arenas alike. Our VLA series with its three horizontal coverage patterns was designed specifically with this trend in mind, to provide line array coverage and power in fixed install applications.”
