Harman Pro solution for London retail institution

Oxford Circus Topshop has been specified with a Harman Pro solution by Immedia, the broadcast and communication company founded by former Radio 1 DJ Bruno Brookes.

The Harman Pro fit-out selected by Immedia will eventually utilise more than 500 JBL Control 47CT and Control 24CT Micro transformer ceiling speakers, along with Control 28T surface mount enclosures distributed throughout the five trading floors. These are driven by Crown CTs and CDi series amplifiers, with a processing and routing network constructed around Soundweb DSP devices.

The flexible new system enables the primary stations and concession areas to employ local volume control and source selection, while the store can also broadcast pre-recorded message announcements overload on an audio clock. A five-disc carousel CD changer, a wireless mic system and Topshop/Topman TV content on display monitors across the store are also part of the new set-up.

The sound system can deliver content from both Immedia Broadcast’s own studio in Newbury (via ADSL), as well as that provided in-person by mobile DJs.

Immedia Broadcast’s chief operating officer, Steve Loftus, commented: “I think what we have done is something of a first for the high street. In terms of the JBL speakers, we were keen to ensure we delivered the same consistency and depth of sound now that music is an integral part of the brand profile. The music genre is very eclectic, cutting edge and high fashion, with a lot of pre-release material. The idea is we are playing music which customers will hear in the clubs later on, so maintaining a high impact sound was also crucial.”

A similar Harman Pro configuration is now being brought to other Topshop locations, including Liverpool and Newcastle.
