Gearhouse chooses Custom Consoles for Swiss UEFA installation

Custom Consoles has provided desking for the Match Control Room at UEFA's Swiss headquarters in Nyon. The desking is said to have a shallower frame than standard, being optimised for the latest ultra-compact control and communications equipment.

UK-based systems integrator Gearhouse Broadcast has chosen Custom Consoles Module-R furniture for a major technical installation at the Swiss headquarters of the UEFA sports federation. Located at Nyon on the north-west shore of Lake Geneva, the new facility includes a Match Control Room with three tiered desks facing a front monitor wall.

“All three desks together with the monitor wall surround are finished in white laminate,” said Custom Consoles sales manager Gary Fuller. “Every desk is equipped to seat six operators and is a variant of our Module-R range. This specific design has a shallower frame than standard, being optimised for the latest ultra-compact control and communications equipment.”

“Each operator position has two 22 inch widescreen monitors attached to the desk via vertical supports. Monitor cabling runs inside these supports. Also accessible to each operator is a three rack-unit equipment bay with a sloping control surface. These bays provide desktop access to talkback communications equipment. Every operator position also includes power outlets plus space for a laptop computer which can be docked into the MCR network.”

“The monitor wall houses eight 52 inch Barco rear-projection displays. This structure was supplied on its own frame which we then clad in the same laminate as the desks. Locating the middle and rear desks on raised platforms ensured that all operators are able to see the Barco screens. Light beige carpet, white ceiling and light blue side curtains contribute to an outstandingly clean and modern working environment.”

Custom Consoles says that its Module-R product range allows customers and system integrators to create robust, efficient and attractive control-room desks from a selection of standard interlocking elements. These include single-bay, dual-bay and triple-bay desk sections with front or rear access, work surfaces in matching widths, corner desk sections in 90 degree, 45 degree or 30 degree angles with integral worktops, a slide-out keyboard drawer, equipment pods with 3U, 6U or 8U capacity, a 19 inch storage pedestal and 27U equipment bay.

Module-R furniture is available as off-the-shelf units in beech, cherry, maple or oak finish with a choice of arabesque, black or blue marmoleum worktops. Cabinet construction is in veneered MDF with continuous brush-strip edging and easy cable access.
