Daktronics of Brookings, South Dakota, has continued a longstanding partnership with South Dakota State University (SDSU) to design, manufacture and install 29 new LED displays on campus at the renovated First Bank & Trust Arena in Brookings. A 915sqft centerhung highlights the installation that includes scorers tables, stanchions, vomitory displays and marquees, all installed before the start of the autumn sports seasons in 2024.
The centerhung features a wrapping main video display measuring 11.5ft high by 69ft in circumference and an upper ring display measuring 1.5ft high by 76ft in circumference. Each display features 5.9mm pixel spacing.
The video display is capable of variable content zoning enabling it to show multiple windows and a variety of content at the same time. This includes live video, instant replays, up-to-the-minute statistics, game information, graphics, animations and sponsorship messages.
Near the court, six LED scorers tables and four basket stanchion displays will light up additional graphics, statistics and sponsorship elements. Each scorers table features 5.9mm pixel spacing and measures 2.5ft high by 10 feet wide and can be organised into any configuration to fit the needs of SDSU Athletics.
Each stanchion features 2.5mm pixel spacing and measures 1ft high by 4ft wide with one located on each side of the basketball hoop support structure.
Above the entrances and exits to the main seating bowl, 11 total vomitory displays will be installed, each featuring 5.9mm pixel spacing. These displays all measure 2.5ft high and vary in length from 5ft wide to 36ft wide. Five vomitory displays are located on the north end, two are located on the south end, one on the east club, one on the west club, one on the southeast club and one on the southwest club.
These displays offer the opportunity to highlight sponsors throughout events and can also be used together during larger event moments, such as intro videos, to bring one cohesive look across all displays in the arena.
Four event level scoring displays also feature 5.9mm pixel spacing and each measure 2.5ft high by 15ft wide. Similar to the vomitory displays, these can supplement content being played throughout the arena but will also be used to share critical game information such as scoring, time remaining, timeouts left and game quarter information.
Outside the arena at the main entrances, two marquee displays will be installed to welcome fans to events. Each marquee features 8mm pixel spacing with one measuring 3.5ft high by 39.5ft wide and the other measuring 3.5ft high by 73ft wide. These will also be able to share upcoming event information, sponsorship messaging and other information relevant to SDSU Athletics and the university as a whole.
Daktronics is also including a Show Control solution which provides a combination of display control software, video processing, data integration and playback hardware. Completing the new audiovisual solution, Daktronics is delivering a custom audio system to be integrated with the video and scoring system at First Bank & Trust Arena.
Included with the equipment installation, the Jackrabbits will also receive a custom content package to be produced and delivered by Daktronics Creative Services.
Justin Sell, director of athletics, said: “Our long-standing and continued partnership with Daktronics provides Jackrabbit fans with the industry’s best video and sound systems. The upgraded equipment will enhance the environment for all events in the newly renovated First Bank & Trust Arena. It’s also special to partner with Daktronics on this project – they are part of the fabric of Brookings, South Dakota, and South Dakota State University. We are truly excited to reveal these new elements to spectators this fall and continue the momentum at SDSU.”
Matt Warnke, sales representative, Daktronics, added: “We have been a partner of the university for many years, and our scoring and video display systems have been a part of many exciting moments in SDSU history. We look forward to the new LED displays and audio system enhancing what will be a great game-day environment.”
