The gallery space consists of a 26m x 10m (circumference of 18m) purpose-built touring space supplied by Serious Structures. Visitors are able to experience a series of specially commissioned films made by visual artists in response to rare or unheard versions of songs by major bands and vocalists. The films encompass a variety of visual approaches, including animation, video sampling and media art.
PSL’s seamless screen forms a 2m-high band around the inside of the Gallery, ideal for carrying footage such as Doug Fishbone’s surf celebration, which combines big-wave surfing with a disco reworking of Strauss’s Also Sprach Zarathustra.
Other equipment includes a cluster of 16 Sanyo XP57 projectors, designed and supplied by PSL, while media content was delivered by a pair of Hippotizer Stage media servers operating in Pan mode. The Hippotizers were programmed by Richard Bagshaw, while Julien Hogg and Fergus Noble served as the projectionists.
Production agency Forma curated all content for the Gallery. Pod Bluman project-managed the video delivery and specification for PSL Music.
