An L-Acoustics Kara II concert sound system has upgraded the audio for the Concertzaal Tilburg, a 743-seat auditorium in the Netherlands offering a wide range of performances, including everything from small symphonic and chamber music, to amplified concerts, festivals, musical theatre and conferences.
Fairlight, L-Acoustics certified distributor for the Netherlands, designed a system to provide clear, balanced sound while minimising visual impact on the hall’s aesthetics. It integrated a main PA with left/right hangs of eight Kara II line array speakers covering the ground floor. Meanwhile, Panflex at the asymmetric 90° setting helps to avoid reflections from the walls while maintaining a wide stereo image.
Six KS21 are centrally flown in two columns of three, giving consistent low-end coverage and benefitting from both cardioid and end-fire technology for minimised reflections and maximised rejection on stage. Five 5XT provide front row coverage and imaging.
The hall features two balconies that are covered by a distributed system of 5XT and A10i in white, to integrate with the architecture. A P1 processor provides Milan-AVB networking with the LA4X and LA7.16i amplified controllers.
Pernel van Herpt, technical manager at Concertzaal Tilburg, said: “Our goal with this upgrade was to address some of the acoustic challenges we’ve faced over the years. The Kara II system gives us more flexibility to accommodate our varied programme, while ensuring consistent sound quality throughout the hall.”
He added: “The new Kara II concert sound system blends into the décor. This upgrade is part of our ongoing efforts to maintain Concertzaal Tilburg as a premier venue for arts and culture in our region.”
Van Herpt felt the upgrade would benefit multiple events, from acoustic performances that require subtle reinforcement, to full-scale amplified concerts, as well as improving intelligibility for conferences and spoken-word events.
René van der Linden, project manager, from Fairlight, commented: “We’re pleased to have worked with Concertzaal Tilburg on this project. The new system provides a noticeable improvement in sound clarity and coverage, enhancing the overall experience for audiences.”
