CODA Audio’s AiRAY and ViRAY loudspeakers were supplied for the Songkran festival in Chiang Mai, Thailand. Part of the traditional Thai New Year festivities, Songkran involves large-scale throwing of water and other entertainment, which this year took place on a large stage outside the MAYA shopping centre
Held from April 13-15, the three-day public holiday attracted a 10,000 crowd to Chiang Mei. They enjoyed DJ sets, live artists, dance, and other entertainment on the main stage, in addition to the water throwing.
Bangkok-based Coconut Sound deployed a system comprising a main PA of 8 x AiRAY and 4 x ViRAY per side, with side hangs of 6 x AiRAY with 4 x ViRAY per side. The low end reinforcement consisted of 16 x SCP sensor controlled subwoofers with a number of HOPS8 (8in high output point source) units used as front fills.
Wichak Chanmuang, system designer, Coconut Sound, said: “With the city bustling to the sound of many events, including a large DJ set-up in close proximity to MAYA, the system needed to deliver sufficient power and coverage to ensure that the crowd’s enjoyment of the artists was not compromised.
“The system achieved this with ease, leading to high praise from all the front of house engineers and the client – the sound was excellent.”
Paul Ward of CODA Audio commented: “With reliable and expert support from Modern Solutions Plus, Coconut Audio cover a wide range of applications with their CODA systems – they are a great example of a company who recognise the versatility and adaptability of our systems and deploy them to maximum advantage at indoor and outdoor events on every scale.”
