Christie projectors power immersive visuals at China’s new science museum

More than 100 Inspire Series 1DLP laser projectors deployed across multiple exhibition halls at the Shenzhen Science and Technology Museum

Christie’s Inspire Series 1DLP laser projectors are at the heart of the new Shenzhen Science and Technology Museum, where over 100 units have been installed to deliver high-impact visuals across a range of permanent exhibition spaces. The integration, carried out by Christie’s partners Jianye Display and Shanghai Qingying Digital Technology, spans multiple themed zones and supports both immersive storytelling and interactive learning.

Located in the Guangming District, the museum’s architecture was inspired by a spacecraft and supports a theme of “Digital Civilisation”. With four permanent halls and over 950 exhibits – more than 80 percent of which are interactive – the venue has quickly attracted public attention, recording over 1m visitors within its first three months of operation.

Christie’s DWU860-iS and DWU960-iS projectors are used extensively across the venue to meet the visual demands of exhibits that include wide-format displays, projection mapping, and touch-interactive environments. In the “Mysteries of Mind and Body” hall, for example, DWU960-iS projectors power an ultra-wide 15,200 x 4,000 mm display titled “Embracing Nature,” while DWU860-iS models are used for “Big Monster Projection,” a game-like interactive experience with a 6,435 x 2,600 mm image area.

In the “Digital Art” zone, DWU860-iS projectors support the “Geometry in Nature” exhibit, where visuals explore the intersection of mathematics and the natural world. Touchscreens integrated into the exhibit are designed to encourage deeper engagement and learning. Meanwhile, the “Communications Technology Pavilion” features high-brightness displays in ambient light environments using multiple DWU860-iS units, while additional installations use DWU760-iS projectors to showcase advancements in communications technology.

On the fifth level, the “Origins of the Universe” hall brings cosmic themes to life using 24 Christie DWU860-iS projectors. This area, designed by Shanghai Qingying, covers topics ranging from particle physics to deep space, combining projection and digital technology to build a cohesive narrative environment. Exhibits such as “The Ark of Life” and “Web of Space and Time” use visual storytelling to explore complex scientific ideas.

Jianye Display described the project as technically demanding but ultimately successful. A spokesperson said: “The project team successfully addressed various technical challenges presented by the diverse integration requirements of the exhibits, achieving a result that met expectations. The Christie projectors delivered the brightness, contrast, and stability needed for this environment.”

Shanghai Qingying echoed the sentiment, noting that “each installation presented unique requirements, but our team’s expertise, combined with the DWU860-iS’s performance, ensured an outstanding visual presentation.”

Han Kim, vice president of sales, Asia-Pacific, Christie, added: “We are honoured to work with our partners on this significant project. The Inspire Series has become a trusted solution for science and education venues thanks to its image quality, reliability, and ease of maintenance.”
