Case Study: Fancy a round of golf with spoiling a good walk? ViewSonic makes it happen

ViewSonic brings fully immersive indoor golf experience to Newbury and Crookham Golf Club

The Challenge:

Newbury and Crookham Golf Club, established in 1873, is one of the oldest clubs in England, with 600 members who regularly take to its 18 hole, par 69 course.

With the British weather often becoming a handicap for players, the club wanted to create an indoor golf simulation facility, so that members could practice and develop their golf skills all year round, in multiple virtual locations under the guidance of the club’s resident golf club professional.

“It was really important to us that we provided a facility which was up to date, reflected our passion for golf, and demonstrated our desire to enhance our members’ experiences ”, Barry Newman, head golf professional at Newbury and Crookham Golf Club.

The Solution:

To do this, the club approached ViewSonic, who selected two AV solutions were selected to provide the most efficient method of installation, and the most immersive experience for both practice and coaching.

These included:

ViewSonic Pro8530HDL installation projector

ViewSonic CDE6561T interactive flat panel

The Pro8530HDL is a Full HD projector designed for large venue projection. The projector utilises a unique flexible installation design and intuitive functionality to deliver an immersive wide screen simulated viewing experience on a large 4.5m screen.

The CDE6561T is a fully interactive HD resolution display with 20-point touch which, when paired with PC-less operation and annotation software, allows multiple users to write and draw on the display simultaneously. For our golf club installation the system will be used for interactive assessment of players’ skills, including analysis of grip, swing, angle of impact, force and direction of play.

The Results

The project enabled the club to realise the development of a fully-immersive and realistic indoor golf simulation experience. Quick installation also minimised inconvenience and enabled the club to promote an exciting new all-weather facility.

Moreover, a number of additional benefits have been realised as well, including an increase in member attendance and engagement, positive customer feedback, and an excellent review from the club’s professional golfer.

“The Club has a long and interesting history – our new indoor all- weather training facility shows our commitment to embracing the latest technology to help our members improve their game. What we have here is really unique and I enjoy the opportunity to use different locations to help add variety to my coaching and instruction”, concluded Newman.
