Belfast theatre install for PSI

Production Services Ireland (PSI) has completed the supply and installation of lighting and sound equipment at the 400-seat Theatre At the Mill in Newtownabbey, Belfast.

Production Services Ireland (PSI) has completed the supply and installation of lighting and sound equipment at the 400-seat Theatre At the Mill in Newtownabbey, Belfast. The state-of-the-art facility is the latest addition to Newtownabbey Borough Council’s HQ and is located close to a renovated 19th century flax mill.

Winning the contract against considerable competition, PSI worked to the specification of consultancy Theatre Plan and co-operated closely with the venue’s technical manager, Mick Draine.

The need for flexibility and versatility of usage informed the entire AV spec. Accordingly, the lighting spec includes a large contingent of moving lights (16 Robe ColorSpot and ColorWash 700E ATs), along with ETC Source Four Profiles, PAR and fresnel fixtures. ETC Lustr units and two Robert Juliat Lucy followspots are also part of the core infrastructure, while lighting control is provided by an ETC Ion (main auditorium) and an Avolites Pearl Tiger (mobile).

Audio, meanwhile, is structured around an Opus loudspeaker system, Yamaha LS9 and 01D consoles, and a large selection of Sennheiser radio microphones, including 14 lapel and four hand-held devices. The sound system is completed by an Aviom monitor system, which runs via Cat5/RJ-45 cabling and allows the delivery of both a normal mix and a series of musician-specific ‘mini-mixes’.

“We were delighted to win this contract,” said PSI’s Brian Reilly. “Theatre is a growing market in Ireland and an area in which we have plenty of experience. It’s great to see the investment going into high-profile projects like this.”
