Anne Minors presents on efficient theatre design ideas at NATEAC

Anne Minors of Anne Minors Performance Consultants was one of four panellists to present a session at NATEAC 2012, the North American Theater Engineering and Architecture Conference.

Anne Minors of Anne Minors Performance Consultants (AMPC) was one of four panellists to present a session at NATEAC 2012, the North American Theater Engineering and Architecture Conference. Entitled Efficient Design Ideas for Theatres: How To Do More With Less, the session explored ideas around how to maximise design efficiency in projects with modest budgets. Minors brought her knowledge and experience of 27 years’ of design to the table – during which time she has designed over 100 rooms for concerts, opera and theatre. “At AMPC we take an integrated, holistic approach to design and spend a great deal of time on the details,” explained Minors. “We give careful consideration to what each project needs and design for aesthetic effect as well as efficiency, often building features into the architecture itself. We pride ourselves in our individual and creative use of equipment to maximise performance, whatever the scale of budget, and ensure the client receives the best possible results their budget can give.” The NATEAC panel discussion focused on mid-budget projects and gave delegates the opportunity to put their questions directly to practitioners and to learn from the panel’s combined experience. AMPC has been involved in projects including the Paul Ruddock Performing Arts Centre at King Edwards School, Birmingham, the Yehudi Menuhin School, Cobham, the Egg Children’s Theatre, Bath and The Bishop Centre at Godolphin and Latymer School, Hammersmith. Garsington Opera House, another recent AMPC project, has been awarded no less than three RIBA awards at the ceremony held last month: the RIBA Award, the RIBA South Building of the Year Award and the RIBA Client of the Year Award. The project will go forward to be shortlisted for the prestigious Stirling Prize for Architecture. Anne Minors was joined on the panel by architects Virginia Ross of Williams Ross Artchitects, Victoria, Australia and Katie Oman of Fischer Dachs Associates, New York, America. The panel was moderated by theatre consultant, Robert Hamilton, of Douglas Welch Design Associates Ltd, Vancouver, Canada.
NATEAC took place from 22 – 23 July 2012 at the New York Hilton Hotel.
