All aboard: SBB upgrades with Barix

According to Barix, the company’s scalable system will enable the SBB network structure to become considerably more cost-effective, flexible and straightforward. The installation is taking place as part of a modernisation programme entailing the replacement of SBB’s ISDN operational telecommunication network with a digital IP-based network for the central distribution of announcements.

The technical implementation is being carried out by Sphinx Connect and system integrator IMS-Info Management.

Johannes Rietschel, CEO and founder of Barix, told II: “The installation at SBB is only one of many planned or ongoing projects with the Barix Annuncicom-1000. With its flexibility, customisation capabilities and high quality, we see the installed audio and security markets as the major market for the product. A major OEM is beginning shipping the devices now, too. The product is exactly positioned into the sweet spot of communications, be it as a SIP interface for a PA system, an audio bridge over standard IP connections, or a stand-alone PC-free, multi-zone IP audio distribution system.”

Along with Barix Exstreamer devices, Annuncicom systems were recently deployed to provide broadcasting of music and announcements to 35 cable car stations and ski lodges in the Swiss region of Titlis. Shortly before that, the HUD Group in Hong Kong’s main dockyard replaced its traditional PA with an IP system founded on Barix Annuncicom devices.
