ADI catches Foxes

ADI - who installed British football's first LED screens at Aston Villa in 1997 - is bringing big screen technology to the Coca Cola Championship's Leicester City.

English football club Leicester City – “The Foxes” – has invested in two 30m screens, positioned in the south-east and north-west corners of The Walkers Stadium. The screens are from ADI’s latest Virtuality Stadium range and are said to be amongst the highest resolution screens in UK stadia. Whilst most stadium screens tend to have a ‘virtual’ 10mm pixel size, Leicester City has chosen more future-proof 8mm screens, giving a superior picture quality and resolution. The contract also includes provision of a broadcast suite along with training and various programming production elements.

ADI – who installed British football’s first LED screens at Aston Villa in 1997 – was able to advise the Club on the most suitable technical solution for its requirements, as well as how best to accommodate them within the stadium. ADI is providing a fully project managed installation, working closely with stadium contractors throughout the project and the contract also includes specification and installation of a control room.

With the screens set to be installed during the summer off-season, ADI provided Leicester City with temporary screens in order for the Club to have screens in place for the final four home matches of the season. It also allowed Leicester City the opportunity to evaluate how the screens would look in their chosen location, before the full permanent installation takes place.

ADI has specified and installed an advanced production and playout suite which allows a single operator to combine multiple cameras, clips and graphics for full matchday broadcast. Leicester City has a media department within the Club and has decided to create and manage content and programming in-house. ADI has worked closely with the Club in the short term, providing a full content and graphics service alongside training, before ADI hands over complete control to the Club early next season, with ongoing support as required.

“ADI have nearly 15 years of experience in stadium LED screens and this shows in the service that we provide our customers,” said Sharon Smith, commercial manager, sport at ADI. “We pride ourselves on offering solutions that truly are tailored to each Club’s requirements, both in terms of the products and long term operational requirements. It’s more than just offering different options; it’s about having the skills, knowledge and flexibility to create bespoke solutions and adapt these to fit our customers’ needs throughout the lifetime of their investment.”

“Whilst many Clubs require us to create content and operate screens throughout their lifetime, we are just as able to provide them with the means and training to do this themselves,” she continued. “Leicester have benefitted from us managing content and broadcast initially, before gradually handing control over to them when they are confident; it gives them a safety net and we are always on hand to provide assistance or additional production support “whenever they require.”

“At ADI, we understand that the installation is merely the beginning of our relationship with our customers,” concluded Smith. “What’s really important is how they get the very best use out of their screen over the coming years and our range of services and skills is designed to enable them to do just that.”

“After careful and lengthy consideration, which took in a number of different suppliers, Leicester City are pleased to announce ADI as our new stadium LED screen partner,” said Paul Hunt, commercial director at Leicester City. “We believe ADI’s key strengths to be their ability to provide a flexible and bespoke installation and their unrivalled expertise in the market place, giving us a solution that benefits the Club not only in the short term, but in the years to come. ADI have proved us right, and have provided an excellent service from start to finish, offering knowledgeable advice and expertise followed by perfect execution and great support.”
