Yamaha, CobraNet for luxury resort

Costa Navarino – the newest ‘must visit’ holiday destination in the Mediterranean – has been equipped with a high-spec audio solution by Yamaha’s Greek importer, Philippos Nakas SA.

The company won the tender to supply and install audio in all the public areas – including bars, restaurants, children’s play centres, hotel lobbies and reception areas – across the enormous site, which stretches for 2km along the Messinia coast.

System designer Gerasimos Efthymiatos selected a CobraNet-based network, due to its cost-effectiveness and because any latency is consistent throughout the network. Divided into 85 zones, the system features 32 Yamaha DME4io-C satellite DME units and no less than 110 XH-200 distribution amplifiers to power its loudspeakers.

The system is used to simultaneously distribute 17 different music programs through the network, ensuring that an appropriate style of music is played in each location – for example, Greek music in the Greek tavern.

Overall system control is conducted by a PC running Yamaha DME Designer software, while a hardware control panel (Yamaha CP1SF, CP4SF or ICP-1) has been installed in each zone. These are used by hotel staff to control the volume of the music and select variations in the programming for each area.
