Thursday’s ISE education offering involves 21 education sessions from CEDIA and InfoComm, with topics ranging from the hazards of data transmission to ideas on how to ensure you business is profitable.
First up will be a session entitled the Introduction to Audio, Video and Home Cinema, 9:30 – 12:30 room D202.
Presented by Geoff Meads (pictured), managing director at Presto AV, alongside Phil Davies, sales and marketing director at UK-based connectivity specialist CYP, the CEDIA-accredited seminar aims to explore and discuss the root cause of HDMI failures, how to test for compliance and steps to resolve these complex problems.
Meads comments: “Many residential custom installation companies started out selling home cinema. You can trace the very roots of the CI business back to traditional hi-fi shops branching out into surround sound and the need to replace a coffee table full of remotes with unified control.”
The morning sessions continue with Avoid Design Errors in Digital Video Transmission, which Tibor Fejes, technical support engineer, Lightware Visual Engineering, will host at 10:00 in room D204.
Aimed at new AV technicians and more experienced installers from other electronic industries, this InfoComm-accredited session contains important technical information for those considering audio, Video and home cinema as a business opportunity.
Fejes explains: “We usually make the assumption that when a system is digital, it is also ideal and without flaws. In reality digital systems also have a lot of weak points. This seminar explains how the TMDS architecture of DVI and HDMI connectors works and what possible problems are when transmitting TMDS signals through multiple long cables and boxes.”
The afternoon sessions start with d&b audiotechnik’s support and training specialist, Janko Ramuscak, and his discussion on the Secret of a Good Sound System Design in room D204 from 12:00 – 13:30. This seminar will explore how the physical arrangement of drivers is still the dominating factor in many key parameters of a loudspeaker cabinet.
Ramuscak said: “My session addresses people who plan both installed and mobile systems. Hopefully even an architect or two may find their way into the seminar room, as many issues that affect the performance of a sound reinforcement system touch their responsibility.”
Commencing an hour later (13:00 – 14:30) in room D202, Matt Dodd, Technical Direct at CI integration company ThinkingBricks, will lead a seminar entitled Profitable Business Processes.
Dodd elaborates: “Processes within your company are vital to ensuring the business is profitable. Simple analysis of current business practices and a refresher on business basics allows people to leave the rooms with new focus on generating real profit back at base.”
