As with the Autopatch purchase, AMX intends to absorb the Matrix product line but maintain its branding – although in this instance there will be a subtle change, to Matrix Distributed Audio. The Matrix product portfolio includes multi-source audio controllers, audio zone expanders, stereo amplifiers, architectural speakers, keypads and remotes. While best-known in the residential sector, many of the products also have applications in commercial facilities such as boardrooms and conference halls.
Explaining the rationale for this latest purchase, AMX president and CEO Rashid Skaf (pictured) says: “Multi-zone audio has become the entry point into the residential market – from single-family and town homes to condominiums and even yachts. With the acquisition of Matrix Audio Designs, AMX has expanded its residential market opportunity by adding distributed audio products, which we believe will continue to grow in popularity and evolve in functionality for many years to come.”
Skaf adds that AMX wants to “simplify the amount of time it takes builders, developers and systems integrators to develop packaged solutions for homeowners that integrate distributed audio with control and automation; this will be particularly valuable for the condominium market, where property developers require packaged residential solutions on a large scale.”
The existing AMX sales force will take responsibility for selling Matrix products in their territories. All current Matrix dealers who are not AMX dealers will be contacted immediately by their respective AMX sales representative to tell them about the AMX dealer establishment process. Matrix dealers who are also current AMX dealers will experience no change in their relationship or ordering process with AMX.
