Surface II contract awarded to Midwich

Surface II is a multi-touch, multi-user solution, developed by Microsoft and Samsung for a broad range of applications and markets. Midwich has been given exclusive UK distribution rights.

UK distributor Midwich has announced a new partnership.

The Surface II solution has been jointly developed by Microsoft and Samsung and Midwich has been appointed as the sole UK distribution partner. “We are delighted with this new opportunity and have already made contact with all of Microsoft’s accredited developers,” said Darren Lewitt, Group AV Director at Midwich (pictured). “Midwich’s pro-active and solution driven approach along with its relationship with Samsung will be no doubt be crucial for the success of this product.”

Surface II is a solution for a number of vertical markets from education to automotive, healthcare to hospitality, financial services to advertising and retail to professional services. The 40-inch Surface II is multi-touch and multi-user and allows digital content to be directly manipulated by touch, while the 360° interface enables several users to interact with each other simultaneously (more than 50 touches at one time).

Object recognition is a core feature of Microsoft Surface II. The major change in this latest version is the adoption of Windows 7, making for easy portability to all types of hardware running the same operating system. In addition, Microsoft Surface II now supports dual orientation: horizontal as before, and now also vertical, thanks to a thickness of only four inches and integrated corner-mounted accelerometers. Midwich says that resellers can use this new vision-based solution to attract new customers, improve brand perception, transform a customer experience and increase customer loyalty.

“I believe that Midwich is best positioned to manage the integration process between system integrators and the Microsoft software developers,” continued Lewitt. “There are a number of unique benefits that the Midwich Group can offer, being the only major AV distributor with a dedicated technical solutions division – True Colours – is a key factor, as it allows us to manage the support of this solution at every level of integration. We already have very strong relationships with all the targeted integrators for this product and more importantly, as Samsung’s largest distributor we have the most project experience.”

Resellers will get the first opportunity to talk about the Surface II product at the Midwich Group Technology Exposed event at The Grandstand Ascot Racecourse 21st – 22nd September 2011.
