Sharp Europe names new CEO

Sharp has announced that Yoshihisa Ishida, executive vice president, Sharp Corporation, has been appointed as the new CEO of Sharp Europe. Ishida takes over from Tetsuji Kawamura, who will be moving to a position at Sharp Electronics Corporation (USA).

Ishida joined Sharp Corporation as executive vice president in June 2017. In addition to this, he holds two concurrent positions, head of the newly created AIoT Business Strategy office, and CEO, Sharp Europe. The AIoT Business Strategy office looks at Sharp’s application of AIoT, a fusion of artificial intelligence and the Internet of Things, to a range of electronic products for the home and office.

During his career in consumer electronics and IT business and innovation, Ishida has held corporate executive and advisory positions at Sony Corporation, Rakuten Corporation and LG Display Japan.

“I am focused on driving innovation at Sharp, where we are developing connected technologies to support new ways of living and working,” said Ishida. “Our starting point is always how our products and solutions will benefit people’s lifestyles. Sharp is well known in Europe as a technology partner that provides high quality products and excellent customer service; that puts us in an ideal position to develop and provide a new generation of services.”

In other changes to the management team within Europe, Jun Ashida, currently president, Information Systems Europe, is promoted to the position of president, Sharp Electronics Europe, reporting to Ishida. Alex Hermann, currently vice president, Sharp Information Systems Europe, is promoted to the position of president, Sharp Information Systems Europe, reporting to Ashida.

Ishida will continue to be based at Sharp Corporation’s Japanese headquarters with frequent travel to Europe, Ashida will remain based at Sharp Europe’s headquarters in the UK, and Hermann will remain based at Sharp Europe’s Zurich office.
