Samsung’s pocket projector unveiled at Mobile World Congress

Samsung reveal its latest smartphone device, which can double up as a home cinema system to display images up to 50in in width.

Projectors just became pocket-sized, with the introduction of the Galaxy Beam from makers Samsung at the Mobile World Congress (MWC), Barcelona.

The South Korean group, which recently announced plans to sell its consumer LCD unit in an attempt to streamline its operations, is presenting the smartphone that doubles-up as a home entertainment system amid 1,400 other exhibitors at the four day event (27 Feb – 1 March).

Any flat surface can instantly be transformed into an adjustable 50in, 720p picture. Meanwhile, the smartphone itself runs on Android OS – Google’s operating system, which recently increased its global tablet market share – and features a 15 lumen lamp; 4in 480 x 800 display; 1GHz dual-core processor; and a 5 megapixel main camera.

With an expected 60,000 delegates, the MWC is said to be the world’s largest mobile tradeshow.
