RG Jones selects Turbosound Impact system for St Mary’s Church

The install is said to provide highly intelligible spoken word sound reinforcement for the West Sussex church’s congregation.

UK sound contracting company RG Jones has installed a Turbosound Impact audio system at the historic St Mary’s Church in Petworth, West Sussex.

The sound quality in much of the church had been originally poor, and they wanted a better solution with improved clarity of speech and music.

From the front to back of the nave, RG Jones installed a pair of passive 3.5in two-way Impact 35Ts to cover the very front section. These are assisted by a pair of passive dual 5in two-way Impact 65Ts which were fitted for the main front area. Elsewhere, a pair of passive 5in two-way Impact 55Ts was deployed in the side aisles, while an Impact 55T serves the rear area. The team also opted to install a pair of Impact 55Ts to provide coverage for the choir, and three additional Impact 55Ts to serve the balcony. There is also a single TSB-110 bandpass subwoofer under the pulpit to provide the low-end extension for the system.

“St Mary’s is one of the bigger churches that we’ve done and I chose to install the Impact series because of its excellent sound quality and ability to colour-match to really blend in to the surroundings,” commented RG Jones project manager Jeff Woodford. “Impact comes with 100 volt line distribution as standard which makes the cabling really easy, and the tap selectors conveniently allow you to step down the output from each speaker depending on the coverage and level needed in each zone.”

The speakers were also coloured in such a way that they blended in with the fabric of the church.
