Owl celebrates 30th birthday

Owl Visual, the leisure and hospitality arm of Midwich, is celebrating 30 years of being in business.

Owl Visual, who distribute audiovisual technologies to the leisure and hospitality industries, has announced that the company has been in business for thirty years.

Founded as Owl Video Systems in 1981, Owl has developed relationships with companies such Samsung, Sony, LG, Mitsubishi, Sanyo, NEC, Panasonic, and Philips over the years.

In 1991, Owl Video Systems was appointed as Sanyo’s first AV distributor in the UK. This was an accolade what was shortly followed with Owl’s sale of Sanyo’s first projector, the PLV-1, in the UK.

In 2001, Owl was appointed by Mitsubishi as distributor of its AV range in the UK and in 2004 Mitsubishi presented Owl with the award for European Distributor of the Year.

Owl joined forces with Sanyo in 2002 to develop the first smoke-proof projector housing. In 2006, having rebranded the previous year as Owl Visual Systems, the two companies collaborated again to develop the first weatherproof screen.

Owl was acquired by Midwich in 2008 when it was rebranded again to its current name, Owl Visual. The company recently announced the appointment of Neil Colgate (pictured) as general manager.
