Vizrt to launch AI keying tool for virtual and XR scenes

Manufacturer's AI Keyer eliminates need for green screens, enabling background switching and AR graphics insertion in any environment – and makes its debut at NAB Show in Las Vegas this week

Vizrt has announced the AI Keyer, a tool designed to enable virtual and extended reality (XR) scene creation without green screens, complex lighting setups or chroma keying workflows. The tool will make its debut at the NAB Show 2026, which runs April 18-22 at the Las Vegas Convention Center, with the show floor open April 19-22.

The solution uses AI trained on real-world footage across varied environments and lighting conditions to identify human shapes as foregrounds and separate backgrounds in real time, allowing talent to move freely while remaining locked into a virtual scene. Background switching and augmented reality (AR) graphics insertion is designed to work in any setting, indoors or outdoors.

Vizrt says potential applications include inserting remote speakers into virtual town hall environments, repositioning presenters in news segments, and creating virtual advertising backdrops for post-match interviews – without the infrastructure investment typically associated with XR production.

Edouard Griveaud, senior product manager at Vizrt, said: “Creating XR environments typically demands large infrastructure investments and requires specialised skills for daily operations. The Vizrt AI Keyer removes all these constraints, so high-quality virtual scenes and AR graphics become a reality for live productions of every size.”

Rohit Nagarajan, CEO of Vizrt, added: “The Vizrt AI Keyer is the latest proof point of our relentless commitment to innovation. Putting breakthrough technology in the hands of every creative, at every level, everywhere in the world.”
