Based in the US, Cisco Systems is a global force in internet networking. Russia-based SmartLabs provides service delivery platforms for interactive digital television, client applications and user interfaces. Bouygues Telecom provides mobile, fixed and internet communications services in France.
The many other members of the OIPF include the BBC, BT, DTS, Dolby, Fraunhofer, Intel, Motorola, Panasonic, Philips, Samsung, Sharp and Sony.
Yun Chao Hu (pictured) – who in addition to being chair of OIPF is an employee of Ericsson Sweden’s Corporate Function Standardisation operation – commented: “The addition of high-profile and influential US vendor Cisco and Russian technology provider SmartLabs strengthens our representation and profile in the important North American and Russian markets respectively, while French operator Bouygues Telecom reinforces the relevance of the Forum in Europe’s most vibrant and competitive IPTV market. It is very pleasing that the Forum membership includes an ever-increasing number of the world’s most influential IPTV stakeholders, highlighting the desirability of standardised mass market IPTV and throwing a sharp focus on the OIPF efforts to achieve this.”
