The announcement concludes a highly eventful year for the international videoconferencing market, writes David Davies. Consumer technology company Logitech International’s acquisition of LifeSize Communications has been completed at around the same time as Cisco’s purchase of Tandberg – which looks set to proceed now that Cisco has control of more than 90% of Tandberg shares.

A specialist in HD video communication solutions, LifeSize Communications has more than 9,000 VC customers across 80 countries.

Logitech expects the acquisition to drive growth in video communication for the enterprise and SME markets by “leveraging the two companies’ many technology synergies”, which include camera design, firewall traversal, video compression and bandwidth management.

Reflecting on the new arrangement, Craig Malloy (pictured) – who is CEO LifeSize, senior VP Logitech – told II: “LifeSize and Logitech share a vision for how life-like high-definition video communications can become as mainstream and seamless as a telephone call – for anyone, anywhere – from the board room, to the desktop, to the home office, or on-the-go. Together, LifeSize and Logitech can accelerate mainstream video communications.”
